You trust our recommendations, so you deserve to know exactly how we make them. This page explains our testing process, our sourcing standards, and the rules our editorial team follows.

How We Produce Our Content

Every buying guide on this site goes through the same four-stage process:

  1. Research. We start with the science — what strains have research behind them, what CFU counts are meaningful, and what formulation factors affect whether a probiotic survives digestion.
  2. Shortlisting. We survey the market and narrow it to products worth evaluating, based on formulation quality, transparency, and reputation.
  3. Testing. We evaluate each product hands-on: label accuracy, guaranteed analysis, ease of use, palatability with real dogs, packaging quality, and cost per dose.
  4. Ranking. We compare everything side by side and write up our picks — with the reasoning visible, so you can decide if our priorities match yours.

What We Look For

Our evaluation criteria include, but are not limited to:

  • Strain specificity — are the strains named down to the strain level, not just the species?
  • CFU count and guaranteed analysis at expiration, not just at manufacture
  • Third-party testing or quality certifications
  • Ingredient transparency and filler content
  • Palatability — will a picky dog actually take it?
  • Price per dose relative to comparable products
  • Company reputation and customer service track record

Fact-Checking and Review

Every article is fact-checked before publication. Product claims are verified against labels and manufacturer documentation, research references are checked against the original sources, and a second editor reviews each guide. If we cannot verify a claim, we do not publish it.

Use of AI Tools

We may use AI tools to help with drafting and research organization. Every word we publish is reviewed, verified, and approved by a human editor — AI never publishes anything on its own, and our team takes full responsibility for accuracy.

Keeping Content Current

Product formulas change, prices shift, and new brands appear. We re-check our major guides on a regular schedule and update them when something material changes. Each guide shows when it was last reviewed. If you spot an outdated price or a reformulated product, tell us — we will verify and update it.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial team is separate from our advertising and affiliate relationships. Brands cannot pay for placement, cannot see reviews before publication, and cannot change our scores. Accountability
